By the way, just in case this helps someone –

COOKING – creativity is okay

BAKING – stick to the recipe (you can usually adjust sugar content to taste, though)

BREAD – wait for the right weather conditions (or engineer them), be one assertive and self-confident motherfucker because dough can feel it if you aren’t, a blood sacrifice probably helps, trust the gods

PASTRY – your God is dead, the god of gluten and madness is risen, abandon all hope ye who enter here

well that’s fairly accurate

As a cook, I can tell you that is pretty on the nose.

Consider some facts about how American employers control their workers. Amazon prohibits employees from exchanging casual remarks while on duty, calling this “time theft.” Apple inspects the personal belongings of its retail workers, some of whom lose up to a half-hour of unpaid time every day as they wait in line to be searched. Tyson prevents its poultry workers from using the bathroom. Some have been forced to urinate on themselves while their supervisors mock them.

About half of US employees have been subject to suspicionless drug screening by their employers. Millions are pressured by their employers to support particular political causes or candidates. Soon employers will be empowered to withhold contraception coveragefrom their employees’ health insurance. They already have the right to penalize workers for failure to exercise and diet, by charging them higher health insurance premiums.

How should we understand these sweeping powers that employers have to regulate their employees’ lives, both on and off duty? Most people don’t use the term in this context, but wherever some have the authority to issue orders to others, backed by sanctions, in some domain of life, that authority is a government.

We usually assume that “government” refers to state authorities. Yet the state is only one kind of government. Every organization needs some way to govern itself — to designate who has authority to make decisions concerning its affairs, what their powers are, and what consequences they may mete out to those beneath them in the organizational chart who fail to do their part in carrying out the organization’s decisions.

Managers in private firms can impose, for almost any reason, sanctions including job loss, demotion, pay cuts, worse hours, worse conditions, and harassment. The top managers of firms are therefore the heads of little governments, who rule their workers while they are at work — and often even when they are off duty.

Wtf I love vox now

My mom wrote this article so I showed her all the notes and now she’s really happy and hopeful about our generation. Lmao

Not sure how it is now; worked part-time in retail in a Toronto clothing chain store, we were routinely searched before going home. Failure to allow the search was a cause for termination.

idk if i even need to link it, most of you are probably aware of it but, a little thingy inspired by closing scene in the Unravel multi-animator project. Color pallete/character designs by @colacatinthehat

i tried a lot of things with this, a background (its not much of one but this is a lot for me lol), a more simplified style to hopefully match the designs better (i have a lot of fun trying to adapt to all these artists different styles tbh), and a bit of an angle+foreshortening. some parts worked, some parts didnt, either way i learned a lot. would you believe this took me like 6+ hours? thats a little sad i need to get faster lmao

This is your annual reminder not to support Green Earth, an ontario based store that happens to sell metaphysical type goods like sage and crystals.

  1. I am a former employee. I was mistreated for my mental illness by the district and store manager, called a ‘crazy’ and a ‘fucking druggie’ for being seen taking medication in the back room during my shift. It was my birth control.
  2. I was worked to the point of an anxiety attack and rushed to the ER for fainting and being unresponsive AT WORK. I was given two weeks to be cleared by doctors or lose my job. I simply quit.
  3. If you don’t make your sales goal a given month, you are fired. These goals are unrealistic and only able to be met a few months a year. We went through 15 part time staff members in my 8 months of employment.
  4. When a store manager is replaced, so is all of the part time staff.
  5. I walked into a store in ottawa and had an associate ask me, while we talked about cleansing practices “are you wiccan?”. All I said was ‘no’ and she laughed and said “oh good we get so many of those weirdos in here”. This is common in staff, especially among management. I had both managers at my location mock wiccans and pagans in general. If you looked goth or punk, oh you were the butt of jokes for weeks.
  6. The ramblings about products they give you are bullshit. Yes the taxidermy bugs are from a breeding program, but they are NOT collected humanely they are bred and killed on a 50/50 basis. Half become display pieces, half are released. Employees will tell you this creates jobs in their native country… this is unconfirmed. We were told to ‘just say that’ but we had no reliable information based on that. Only one brand of dream catchers are made by actual indigenous people and she is paid poorly. Many of the gemstone jewelry is glass or coloured quartz. We are told to lie.
  7. The owner of the company is a drunk who sits at home and watches cameras and calls the stores randomly to harass and swear at us based on behavior he saw on camera.

That is all!!! I keep seeing ads for them, and they were one of the few shops in my town you could buy witchy stuff at. Lots of people shopped there based on ease. Try not to. You will be made fun of the second you leave, it happened all the time in the back room. Just constant mockery of culture unless you were a white yoga instructor.

I gosh i had no idea… this is horrid.
