Oh, well what do you know. Train that out of children, and you don’t have that in employees
You reap what you sow
Seriously, if you take initiative, your teacher will punish you, because you have to keep pace with the rest of the class
Getting along with coworkers is cheating
Critical thinking is a threat to the system because none of the above makes sense for educating a modern workforce, so detention
And of course, drug tests, so those rebellious teens that would actually make well-adapted adults, your adult asses don’t want to hire because you’d prefer to prioritize the stability of the adultist system
You REAP what you SOW
do you know how long it took me after i graduated high school to realize that WORKING WITH OTHER STUDENTS on the same problem is OK and allowed and actually something that improves REAL WORLD WORK SITUATIONS?
way too fucking long
and now i am still blown over that i can ask teachers if they can help me understand something and they’re like “oh shit yeah what’s going on?” instead of “if you don’t understand it you’re not studying hard enough!”
FACTS
The shit I went through in high school just for asking questions. The shit all of my classmates went through just for being there.
I had to unlearn 4 years of being yelled at if I asked a dumb question, getting suspended for wearing certain clothes, being mocked by teachers if I was late on a few assignments, not being allowed to talk to other students during class, not even being allowed to listen to music in my headphones during lunch, having my parents called if i talked about gay rights in an essay or because i said “oxytocin” as a good way to describe love scientifically and they thought I meant “oxycontin”. Teachers literally going through my notebooks several times while I was in the bathroom so they could send emails to my mom about me being depressed because I wrote about being sad once. Teachers literally giving me worse grades on tests because my answers were “too much”. Calling my parents because I said “hell” in an essay about Dantes Inferno. And as soon as my school got it through their thick skulls that everytime they come after me my parents will defend my right to do normal shit, they stopped going after me.
Teachers do this shit because they know they have power over you. They know that if you step out of line, they can call your parents and be believed over you, because adults trust adults.
If someone has any opportunity to violate your rights without consequence, they’ll do it so much that they believe you dont even count as a person.
