i already wrote this in replies but i wanna spread the word better: you have to remember the role oxidization numbers play in this. for example, fluorine is the most electronegative and always acts as oxidizer, therefore a major bottom such as oxygen will top for fluorine. hydrogen is a twink and usually tops, except in metal hydrides, where it acts as oxidizer and bottoms for the metal. also, carbon is a twunk
